OLD SCHOOL MAGIC
[ Part 1 ]
These are the type of magical things that have stood the test of time in the blogging world. Items that you should absolutely include to make sure that humans and computers can read your post as easily as possible. Include these items, and your site will rank higher in search engines, humans will share you content faster, and you will become an industry leader in your field. Pretty good right?
Aim to have 2 or 3 categories the post belongs to
A featured image:
The image that will follow this post around the interwebs when shared (like the intro image above)
Try for at least 2, and have them open in a new window. Example link to another one of your favorite posts.
One singular idea throughout the post:
Wait, do you love coffee too? (<– that was a test)
A leading emotion:
Readers should take away an emotion, give them something to connect to
Solves a problem:
Always have a solution to someone’s problem, especially if you run a business. ex, this post solves the problem of “I don’t know all of the elements that should be included in a blog post”
How fun is it to see people comment on your work!? People ask some really good questions for your future posts too
Page lines and breaks:
For visual formatting
Consistency is key with fonts. No more than 2, and make sure they look good on a phone too
‘More’ break code:
You can have control of what people see on the blog scrolling section of your site. Neat huh?
Social sharing buttons:
You know this one. And, just because you don’t use a particular platform, still turn them on, because your readers might, and they are the only ones that matter (hey, that’s you!)
Make sure this is written in the 3rd person
Logo somewhere on page:
You worked hard on that logo – show it off! And of course for brand consistency
Related posts function:
This is in direct correlation to your categories and will give readers something to do next
Aim for no more than 1,600 words = 7 minutes to read
8-12 words, 70 characters or less
155 characters or less
